Ministry to the Filipino Immigrants
Monthly Mass in Tagalog
On the first Sunday of every month, at 3:30pm, the Filipino Community of St. Mary Gate of Heaven comes together in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass celebrated in Tagalog.
Santo Niño de Cebu
The image of the Holy Child is the oldest Catholic relic in the Philippines, and its feast celebrates the day the first native Filipinos were baptized into Christianity. It is said that the newly-baptized queen of Cebu at the time, Hara Humamay, danced with joy when given the statue of the Holy Child; this was known as the “First Sinulog.” This same event is the basis of the commemorative Sinulog practiced today.
As one community, we commemorate the conversion of the first Filipinos by celebrating the Feast of the Santo Niño de Cebu. The feast is celebrated on the third Saturday of January.
Simbang Gabi
In the nine days leading up to Christmas, mass is celebrated every evening as a means to help prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord.
